Okay, ... I rebooted the machine and tried to deactivate several BIOS options
one after the other ... If I configure to reduce the CPUID value to a maximum
of 3 the system is booting fine, as if there has never been a problem.
Information text for the BIOS option:
"Limit CPUID Value -
This filed limits the maximum value the processor Standard CPUID Function will
support. Some operating systems will not complete installation when the maximum
CPUID Function supported is greater then 3. -
Off = The CPUID Function will not be limited to 3
On = The CPUID Function will be limited to 3 -
The factory default setting is Off"
The machine I am talking about has been run under OpenSUSE11.1 x84_64,
OpenSUSE11.2 x86_64 without problems, always using the xen kernel together with
the standard BIOS setting for CPUID.
I hope this helps a little searching for the problem? The user needs xen, so I
will keep the BIOS setting for now. When this bug is fixed and in the standard
update repository I will reset the value to normal ... since I do not exactly
know what other problems might occur with that BIOS setting. I hope none. :)
Bye and many thanks,
Angie.
