Yes, I can and I did; the result is positive, i.e. kio_sftp worked as expected.
In the meantime I had already reinstalled my laptop with a fresh install of
11.3 and ran into the same problems with my (restored) personal account (BIG
bummer).
It seemed to me the only difference in this situation between the new user and
my personal account (as far as sftp was concerned) was the fact that for my
personal account I restored the '$HOME/.ssh' directory so I backed the restored
directory out of the way and lo and behold kio_sftp worked under my personal
account as well.
To make a long story short; I found that the presence of a keyfile named
'identity' causes current kio_sftp to fail as described above.
This is not a problem for commandline ssh or sftp so I would say this is
definitely a BUG.
While testing this I also found another issue; when accessing an ssh/sftp host
for the first time kio_sftp will request verification of the hosts fingerprint
*3 times* and also stores 3 entries in known_hosts. I would say 1 time
suffices.
