http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=630905 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=630905#c0 Summary: LVM Prevents Disk Partitioning Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: rogers@isi.edu QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686 (x86_64); en-US; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100722 Firefox/3.6.8 Using the x86_64 KDE Live CD, I attempted to install over an existing Red Hat Enterprise 5 setup that used LVM. openSUSE's installer would hang repeatably attempting to delete the logical volume group. Even if I told it to clear the disk labels on the only disks present, it still tried to delete the logical volumes and volume group before clearing the disk labels, and hung. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.start with existing installation using LVM 2.attempt to install with KDE Live CD 3.repartition the disks during installation Actual Results: System would hang trying to delete the existing VolumeGroup. Expected Results: System should delete the volume group. If I told the installer to wipe all disk labels, it would be nice if the installer could shortcut deleting the volume group, but there might be a kernel reason why that can't be done. Workaround: instead of going directly to installation, I use KDE live to run a system session. I opened a terminal window, became superuser, and used vgremove to get rid of the VolumeGroup. After this, the installation proceeded properly. I saw a second, not repeatable, error during installation: other volume label steps, such as setting a partition to type FD, would timeout with an error (-1012???). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
