Depends on the default font setup and resolution used under KDE/GNOME
or better the GTK+ version or its font handling. I'll *not* gona change
that as I can not change that.

Hint: you may install the package gnu-unifont, then restart GNU Emacs,
and if you do not see an other font try to change it by using

       Options -> Set Default Font -> Pick a font

and choose

       Gnu Unifont

with face Regular and size e.g. 12 points.
