User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.2.6)
Gecko/20100626 SUSE/3.6.6-1.2 Firefox/3.6.6

After upgrading to openSUSE 11.3, I ran into a *lot* of stability problems with
X.

reboot system boot 2.6.34-12-deskto Thu Jul 22 13:48 - 14:12 (00:24)
reboot system boot 2.6.34-12-deskto Thu Jul 22 13:44 - 13:46 (00:01)
reboot system boot 2.6.34-12-deskto Tue Jul 20 13:43 - 13:46 (2+00:03)
reboot system boot 2.6.34-12-deskto Tue Jul 20 12:53 - 13:46 (2+00:52)
reboot system boot 2.6.34-12-deskto Mon Jul 19 13:36 - 13:46 (3+00:10)

With openSUSE 11.2 I would get uptimes measured in weeks or even more than a
month.

When booting natively, I get the nouveau driver, which "works", more or less,
but seems very unstable.

The stock nouveau driver works for me, insofar as "works" means "I get between
10 minutes and a day of use" before the machine locks up hard.

I think it actually has to do with the system attempting to suspend for some
reason (if I walk away from the computer I frequently come back to a frozen
machine, even if I'm gone only a few minutes).

Sigh.

If I boot with nouveau.nomodeset=1, the system tries to use the NV driver, and
fails miserably:

I get a completely black screen, no X, no caps-lock, nothing.
/var/log/messages (upon reboot it can be inspected) contains:

Jul 22 13:46:08 worklaptop kdm[2201]: X server startup timeout, terminating

However, if I wait long enough, the power button will *try* to reboot the
machine, which ultimately fails (the machine never reboots).

The *failed* Xorg.0.log ends with this:

[ 50.773] (II) Module "ramdac" already built-in

I can supply the whole thing if it's useful.

If I completely remove the nouveau driver, sometimes I can get the NV driver to
work.
