I can confirm now that the problem is gone with Opensuse 11.3:
Relevant packages:
* patterns-openSUSE-xen_server-11.3-22.1.x86_64
* xen-libs-4.0.0_21091_05-6.6.x86_64
* xen-doc-html-4.0.0_21091_05-6.6.x86_64
* xen-tools-4.0.0_21091_05-6.6.x86_64
* xen-4.0.0_21091_05-6.6.x86_64
* kernel-xen-devel-2.6.34-12.3.x86_64
* xen-doc-pdf-4.0.0_21091_05-6.6.x86_64
* kernel-xen-2.6.34-12.3.x86_64
What I am doing is compiling the kernel in both dom0 and in a opensuse 11.2
guest with "make -j 4"
Both host and guest remain responsive and virt-manager show the load being
evenly distributed between host and guest. I am running this on a Sony Vaio F11
(corei7 720QM). In the old situation, the compilation output of the guest would
stop immediately as soon as any load is put on the server.
At least with this setup, we can expect maintenance tasks, like backups or
other things not to interfere that much any more with the functioning of the
guests.
