http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=623148 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=623148#c0 Summary: wget "--progress=dot" option significantly changes reported transfer rate Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: SLED 11 Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: andavis@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de CC: csalmond@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Hello... I have been doing some testing with 10Gb ethernet cards. The test consists of downloading a 400MB file using wget. If I use just the "wget" command with no options, I get a transfer rate of about 400 MB/s. If I use the "wget" command with the "--progress=dot" option, I get a transfer rate of about 150 MB/s. Is this as it should be? I recognize that using the "--progress=dot" option means that more info is written to the screen, but should this be included in the calculation of transfer rate. Thoughts? Note: The way we ran into the problem is that our tests actually write the wget output to a file, and this forces the use of the "dot" reporting style.
