Summary: 1-Click Install does not support Debian-based
distributions
Classification: openSUSE
Product: openSUSE.org
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Other
Status: NEW
Severity: Enhancement
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Software Portal
AssignedTo: benji@xxxxxxxxxxxx
ReportedBy: lenz@xxxxxxxxxxx
QAContact: opensuse-communityscreening@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Blocker: ---
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.6)
Gecko/20100628 Ubuntu/10.04 (lucid) Firefox/3.6.6
When searching for packages for an RPM-based distribution, the package search
provides a "1-Click Install" link, that registers the respective package
repository in the user's collection of package installation sources.
The same happens when searching for packages for Debian-based distributions.
However, they usually don't know how to handle the provided YMP file. In order
to reach the same functionality (subscribing to a certain package repository),
a user has to follow the instructions outlined here:
http://wiki.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Build_Service_Debian_builds#Configuring_sources.list
This process is cumbersome and far away from a 1-Click solution.
For now, I would suggest to remove the "1-Click Install" link when a user
searches for Debian packages, as it only adds confusion. In the long term, it
would be nice if a functional 1-Click installation mechanism for Debian-based
systems would be provided.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Search for a package for a Debian-based distribution
2. Click on the "1-Click Install" link
3. Observe it does not do what the user would expect.
Expected Results:
When clicking "1-Click Install" from a Debian-based system, I would expect the
respective package repository to be added to my /etc/apt/sources.list file and
the package in question to be installed automatically.
Take a look at http://code.google.com/p/one-click-installer/ - maybe it would
help to facilitate this?
