http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=617676 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=617676#c0 Summary: Computer hangs during installation in iMac 27" i7 processor Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: RC 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: digiplan.pt@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.4) Gecko/20100611 SUSE/3.6.4-6.1 Firefox/3.6.4 Following the installation procedure described in http://en.opensuse.org/User:Keichwa/Installation_on_iMac but using an Apple iMac 27" with i7 After booting from the openSuSE DVD, the display resolution was not native, but it worked. I didn't had to say anything about GPT, as the bootloader was correctly configured. After finishing first part of the installation, openSuSE asked to reboot, and simply hanged with a blank screen. I assume it stopped during the initialization of the graphics adapter. Trying to boot from rEFIt gives the error "no bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key". It was possible to boot openSuSE, using the DVD, selecting "boot from hard disk", then "Failsafe -- openSuSE". This means something is wrong with the GRUB configuration, but it is not the reason for this bug. Tested configuration was: iMac 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 with Mac OS X 10.6, Apple magic mouse and wireless keyboard. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Follow steps in http://en.opensuse.org/User:Keichwa/Installation_on_iMac 2. After installing rEFIt and resizing hard disk, boot into openSUSE DVD as explained in step 1 3. Perform a standard desktop installation of openSUSE 11.3 RC1 x86_64. Make sure GRUB does not install in MBR. 4. After first installation part, computer says it is going for reboot, then hangs with a blank screen. Actual Results: Besides the blank screen and computer hanged, there is possible to boot openSUSE in failsafe mode. It says the installation procedure was not completed. Goes all the way to the end, but after next boot, the symptoms are the same. In Xorg, ATI HD5850 graphics adapter does not work correctly. Expected Results: Normal boot, proceeding with the final steps of the installation. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
