http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=617306 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=617306#c0 Summary: Suddenly icons become Xs, text becomes rectangles, init scripts fail to run Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: RC 1 Platform: 32bit OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jlutz@fastmail.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.9) Gecko/20100317 SUSE/3.5.9-0.1.1 Firefox/3.5.9 openSUSE 11.3 RC1 running GNOME. In GNOME, while using video applications, this has twice happened: * the system has had all icons become red X placemarkers * all text became rectangles * when I switched to ttys, I can only login, then the system displays: INIT: cannot execute "/sbin/getty" repeatedly and says it is being paused for five seconds; after that, the terminal is unresponsive Results in hard reboot. On the first time this happened, I rebooted into the same system and it reported it could not read the superblock of the root XFS partition. This was fixed in openSUSE 11.2. The RC1 install then booted and continued working until it blew up again after approx. 10 more hours of use, again while watching video. I haven't booted into the system after the second crash yet but the partition can be mounted cleanly.
