--- Comment #4 from Marius Tomaschewski 2010-05-17 08:53:38 UTC ---
The BOOTPROTO='none' is a special flag that should be used only for
slave or port interfaces in bonds or bridges only [STARTMODE=auto is
to consider it e.g. as mandatory interface at boot time].
The purpose is not to set "up" an interface without any IP address,
but to _skip_ the set "up" (set ethtool [and sysctl on 11.3] options
only), because the "up" state is controlled by the master interface.
To set up interface without any ip, use:
STARTMODE='auto'
BOOTPROTO='static'
IPADDR=''
(or even without the explicit IPADDR).
Unfortunately, yast2 will say that this interface is not configured,
because it currently requires a useless (ignored by ip addr) IPADDR
setting:
STARTMODE='auto'
BOOTPROTO='static'
IPADDR='0.0.0.0/0'
Please improve / cleanup yast2 texts and remove the requirement of a
0.0.0.0/0 address. YaST should not enforce any address in static mode.
