There must be a reason for this broken fifo in /dev/ ... maybe
you should have look into the initrd.  First of all check the
creator of the initrd image:

         grep -rs xconsole /lib/mkinitrd /sbin/mkinitrd*

then just do

         zcat /boot/initrd | grep xconsole

.. beside this are you using apparmor or any other tools causing
the kernel to watch on file accesses?
