--- Comment #6 from Richard Smrcina
I was experiencing a similar problem with OpenSUSE 11.2 release code. It would seem to lock up at various times, sluggish mouse movement, no keyboard response, the only way out is to power off and on. After the reboot cycle, the temperature widget would read a very high temp that would come down to normal after a few minutes.
I read a few other bugs like this and say in bug 548140 that a new radeon driver is in the factory that has a line item to fix 2D and 3D lockups. I installed it and will see if it has any effect on my system.
After installing the radeon driver from the factory (xorg-x11-driver-video-radeonhd-1.3.0_20091106_619706-2.2) a few weeks ago, the stability of the desktop is much improved. The temperature is still quite high when desktop effects is turned on and any effects are actually running (spinning things, snow, etc), this also affects the system when I play video. So I will run with effects turned off from now on. This is ATI Radeon X1400. I am certainly willing to test new driver levels, if it is thought that they will have an effect on CPU utilization and/or driving the temperature. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
