One year later and nothing has really changed.
The experimental 3D Support for the Radeon HD 2000 - HD 4000 series is still
suffering from major issues like things getting drawn in the wrong place.
Average users can that way not make use of it anyway also because you need to
compile it manually. Not even video playback works well in lack of an X-Video
extension. It is said to cause drop outs (in deed with multiple players though
I have not analysed the cause for it). DRI alone seems to be of little help.
Lately a gnome developer told me to ask my distributor for better graphics
drivers as he told me that they are not going to support users with unsupported
graphics hardware (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=603129). That way
it is considered a bug rather than a feature.
An openFate feature request will therefore probably not be too useful also
because most users simply don`t know that their card is not supported (I just
know since Stefan Dirsch has told me about it). Average users won`t find the
openFate entry either. Nonetheless this affects many peoples. Especially the
owners of these Mobility cards are notebook owners who can not change their
graphics card. Nonetheless if you want me to I will open up an openFate entry
for it.
