http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=557547 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=557547#c0 Summary: Live USB fails to boot when 2nd writable partition is created Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Live Medium AssignedTo: coolo@novell.com ReportedBy: sebt@fz25.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Opera/9.80 (X11; Linux i686; U; en-GB) Presto/2.2.15 Version/10.10 Using openSUSE-11.2-KDE4-LiveCD-i686.iso. Following the instructions at http://en.opensuse.org/Live_USB_stick works fine, but as soon as the 2nd partition is created for making the system writable, the system fails to boot. The splash screen appears momentarily, followed by a tty with the following info: .. [xxx] Mounting compressed unified tree... .. [xxx] /sbin/init no such file or not executable [xxx] rebootException: error consoles at Alt-F3/F4 [xxx] rebootException: reboot in 120 sec... This bug was introduced after 11.2 RC2, ie. the problem appeared at the final release. RC2 worked properly with the 2nd partition, although did not allow installation of certain components (eg. nvidia driver) through Yast. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create LiveUSB from openSUSE 11.2 final Live ISO (i686). Boots and works fine. 2. Create 2nd partition using fdisk as per http://en.opensuse.org/Live_USB_stick Actual Results: Reboot results in error described above if 2nd partition exists. If 2nd partition does not exist, LiveUSB works fine. Therefore at presend, LiveUSB can only be used read only. Expected Results: LiveUSB should boot with 2nd partition allowing for a writable USB OS. This bug was introduced after 11.2 RC2. RC2 worked properly with the 2nd partition, although did not allow installation of certain components (eg. nvidia driver) through Yast. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
