i think a syslog is a very integral part of a linux system. even the embedded
linux on routers has that. if you will force us to really make requires for
every so called base package. we will blow up the dependency try quite a bit.

for lighttpd the syslog dependency is optional.it can be configured to use
syslog, in this case it would be nice if the syslogd is started before
lighttpd, but by default it is configured to use its own log files.

a JeOS image should really follow the common sense principle and not leave out
system services.
