This more and more sounds like a userspace problem.
Can you try to update to latest 11.2 gnome-power-manager package (hopefully
this one does not have build dependencies).

Argh, I cannot find the best way to disable these hotkeys, I thought there is a
way to mask them out... Possibly gnome-power-manager tries to evaluate the IBM
keys and gets the one wrong?
