By luck I noticed this mail on our German mailing list
http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-de/2009-11/msg00941.html
which is about the same device "Brother DCP-7030" and
contains a link to THE printer Linux information site:
http://www.openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Brother-DCP-7030
which reads:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Recommended driver: hl1250
..
A proprietary Brother Driver exists, which only works on some
systems. When it works, it works pefectly, otherwise you
can Read "Receiving Data" on the printer's LCD but nothing
happens Using Postscript Drivers produces unlimited paper-feed
and the printjob has to be canceled.
..
hl1250 Prints everything fine except for little "tails" on
some letters, but only with some fonts.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I.e. it seems your proprietary Brother driver is just broken
and works in latest Ubuntu Karmic only by luck so that you
should at lesat try out the free software driver hl1250.
In YaST enter "Brother hl1250" and click [Search] and then
select one of the various models which you think it is
at most compatible with yours - in case of doubt try
"Brother HL-1250" for which the driver was initially made.
In any case write a bug report to Brother so that they can
fix their driver.
