--- Comment #12 from Johannes Meixner 2009-11-05 10:09:10 MST ---
I found a way how to implement BrowsePoll support
with still 17 lines of content in the
"Print via Network" dialog,
and
I know one much more often happening use-case for BrowsePoll
than the above use-case in comment #10:
If you can access remote CUPS servers for printing
but you cannot accept incomming information about published printers
(e.g. because you must have firewall protection for the network zone
in which printers are published or you must have firewall protection
in any case because you use a laptop in various network environments),
you can request printer information from CUPS servers (provided the
CUPS servers allow your access) via BrowsePoll regardless of your
firewall (provided the firewall lets outgoing packages pass as usual).
Thanks to Juergen, who asked me because of an issue
regarding "Print via Network" which revealed this use-case.
Because of this use-case I started again to think about
how to get BrowsePoll support into the "Print via Network" dialog.
