What does 'destroyed' mean? Which code was in MBR after the installation?
In general: You need to hijack either a primary partition (in your case, none
was available) or MBR to install a bootloader. From various reasons, we
(Novell) do not support installing bootloader if there is no primary partition
available (you should get a warning). If you want to install anyway, you need
to review the settings.
Our main purpose is to ensure that the just installed openSUSE will boot. There
is no way to find out whether GRUB in MBR belongs to other, already installed
system or whether it is a relic of some previous installations.
I suggest you should check the 'Bootloader Options' button in bootloader
configuration dialog - there is a check box which may be the cause of MBR being
touched? Release notes remind you, for the future, this information needs to be
moved to a more prominent place.
