--- Comment #9 from Juergen Weigert 2009-11-03 12:51:06 MST ---
I reproduce this issue with all recent SLED and openSUSE releases.
One change happened in 11.2 with regard to 11.1:
While kdm is scrambled, I only need to enter username in the top left hand
corner. When the password field appears there, I now can wipe my finger to log
in. This only works at the initial login. screenlocks are still completely
dead.
This is my workaround:
klick OK at the "authentication method 'Generic'" popup.
log in to KDE as normal user
(using the scrambled kdm, with username and
password in the top lefthand corner)
switch to text console,
log in as root there
run yast to disable the fingerprint reader:
# yast fingerprint-reader
restart X server:
# init 3 ; init 5
(now kdm should be fine again).
re-enable fingerprint reader
# yast fingerprint-reader
switch back to KDE,
TAB, TAB, SPACE, wipe finger, -> works
Do this procedure after every reboot and after every X server restart.
The trick is apparently: KDM has to be started while fingerprint reader is off.
Then KDM (and screen lock later on) works as expected.
