Summary: Installation fails in VMWare. Unable to locate source
disk on CD/ISO
Classification: openSUSE
Product: openSUSE 11.2
Version: RC 2
Platform: i586
OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2
Status: NEW
Severity: Major
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Installation
AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
ReportedBy: doug@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.4)
Gecko/20091016 SUSE/3.5.4-5.1 Firefox/3.5.4

Using VMWare Workstation 7.0, 32bit version on AMD Opteron (64bit). Single
Processor/Dual core selected in configuration. Running under Suse 11.1 32bit
version with 6gb memory, dual Opteron Italy series, Tyan motherboard.

11.2RC2 (32bit) boots normally, installation is selected, license screen
appears and next is selected, and hardware recognition phase begins. It gets
85% of the way through the screen.

When it attempts to map out what CD Drive the installation is using, it fails,
and prompts the user for the location of the source medium. Attempting to
define the media location as /dev/sr0 -> /dev/sr4 (and even trying /dev/hd*)
(for each CD Drive in the physical system), it fails to recognize the media.
This is after prompting for the drive location, then asked to insert the media
(Disk 1), then pressing enter.

Why is it unable to determine the current configuration and use it
successfully? I've noticed this in previous versions but have not run into it
never finding the media before.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Create New VMWare Virtual Machine
2. Use defaults for Virtual Machine, 1 gig of memory selected.
3. Using ISO for CD Drive setup.
4. Power on system.
5. Select to install when prompted.
6. Accept License, then select Next
7. Fails at point in the next screen where it swaps location informatoin on the
physical media.
Actual Results:
Cannot find media.

Expected Results:
Should have found media, then moved on through the installation.
