http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=550613 Summary: etherape not started in root mode Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Factory Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: dutchkind@txoriaskea.org QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; nl; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090909 SUSE/3.5.3-3.2 Firefox/3.5.3 I installed etherape from the factory repository and started it from the menu, but it was unusable because it cannot be run as normal user. I added the lines: X-KDE-SubstituteUID=true X-KDE-Username=root to /usr/share/applications/etherape.desktop and now it works. Without this change this package doesn't make much sense, or etherape should be usable runing under normal user privileges.
