http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=549446 Summary: Computer hangs with kwin desktop effects enabled Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: RC 1 Platform: Other OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: coomac@gmail.com QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090909 SUSE/3.5.3-3.2 Firefox/3.5.3 Kde4 works perfectly fine with desktop effects disabled. When I turn on desktop effects (from System Settings > Desktop > Enable Desktop Effects), the xserver will hang without fail within a few minutes. Once it hangs, the only way to get the laptop back to a usable state is to hard boot - Ctrl+Alt+F1 and Ctrl+Alt+Del/Backspace have no effect. My laptop is an acer ferrari with the ATI X700 graphics card. I'm using the radeon driver. The issue appears on a brand new installation as well as when running from live usb. Since the laptop hangs, I can't find any logs documenting what might have happened. Granted, with the move away from /etc/X11/xorg.conf, I'm no longer sure where to look for X logs. /var/log/messages doesn't show anything. Any thoughts appreciated. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Use KDE4 2. Enable desktop effects from System Settings > Desktop 3. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
