tulip shows a startup dialog, then, for a brief instant, another window, and
then immediately exits with a segmentation violation.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.type 'tulip' at the command prompt
2.
3.
Actual Results:  
tulip dies

Expected Results:  
tulip lives

An strace reveals that the last thing it was doing was reading from a file
descriptor that had this file  open:
/var/cache/fontconfig/77e41c5059666d75f92e318d4be8c21e-x86.cache-2

Not sure if that helps. Perhaps a font-related question?
