http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=540695 Summary: Tomcat 5.5 and UTF-8 Problems (Fix included) Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mge@carus-it.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; de; rv:1.9.0.14) Gecko/2009090217 Ubuntu/9.04 (jaunty) Firefox/3.0.14 Starting the tomcat 55 daemon with catalina.sh and init.d tomcat scripts leads to different results in handling utf-8 data. starting via catalina.sh => UTF-8 works, starting via init.d => UTF-8 is wrongly encoded. This is due to the fact that somewhere in the init.d includes the environment variable LC_ALL is set to "posix" - this leads to wrong locales in the java process. Adding an unset LC_ALL into the catalina.sh or startup.sh script fixed the problem for me.
