Yes, I tried with a floppy which I formatted ext2 on a SUSE 11.1 32 bit system.
I checked that I can mount the floppy there.
(BTW: I used the floppy drive of this other other computer on the 64bit system
- no change of behavior.)
On my 64bit system I get with this floppy:
asterix:~ # mount /media/floppy
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/fd0,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so
asterix:~ # dmesg | tail -25

VFS: Can't find an ext2 filesystem on dev fd0.
asterix:~ # mount /media/floppy
mount: you must specify the filesystem type
asterix:~ #
The relevant line in /etc/fstab is:
/dev/fd0 /media/floppy auto noauto,user,sync 0 0
With the vanilla kernel I get a similar crash as with the DOS floppy.
