nm-applet has the provisions for setting values of default-connections or
changing them, at least this is what I understand from the edit and delete
buttons marked with a key. The key on the button indicates that it should ask
for the root password. But it does not work at the moment. Also if you create a
new connection using network-manager and select the 'available to all'
check-box, then click on apply, it should ask for the root password, but it
does not. You can also see a similar problem in the following bugzilla report.

The problem seems to be with granting authorisations across applications on the
gnome-desktop.
