http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=516262 Summary: Add An Additional Group to Yast and Add Demand Hard Disk Check and/or Repair and Secure Format! Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: alpha096@virginbroadband.com.au QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.10) Gecko/2009042700 SUSE/3.0.10-1.1.1 Firefox/3.0.10 Many Yast Modules currently sit under Miscellaneous. My suggestion is to create a 'Maintain System' Module Group. We could move some currently Miscellaneous Items into this group and add functions that have been suggested in the past like 1. Secure Format and Destroy Hard Disk Data MIL Uses a lot of Red Hat and would love this feature in Suse I would argue. 2. Demand File System check/repair. I understand that the boot process runs File System Checks at boot, however we have no easy method to demand a file system check without demounting the partition and running fsck. This option could take the case of demanding a file system check on next system restart with respect to the root and home partitions. Other partitions that can be safely dismounted, and a demand file system check executed, and then mount the partition again safely, could be very useful. The options available with FSCK that are desirable at times can now safely be offered. 3. The Maintain System Group, if added to Yast, could easily grown in the near future as we provide more 'housekeeping' tasks via a GUI. Just on of which could be 'create an audit log of ? to send with Bug Reposts' Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Enhancement 2. 3.
