http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=512440 Summary: Cannot install any printers in Yast2, works fine in Control Center Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mdmalik01@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.0.10) Gecko/2009042700 SUSE/3.0.10-1.1.1 Firefox/3.0.10 I tried installing a simple HP Jetdirect printer through Yast2 and it fails every time on every printer in the department. I tried this in both the GUI and from the command line version of Yast2. One of the first problems I noticed is that Yast2 takes a very long time searching for printers, even before I get the chance to go into the wizard. It then says that it failed to detect any printers, so I go to add one through the wizard. When I run the wizard I get to the point where it asks for the IP address and manufacturer of the printer. When I click OK, it again has a progress bar that takes forever (goes at about 0.01 KB/s judging by the KB in the progress bar). It then has a timeout and gives an error: "Failed to create PPD database". I click "Details", it says "Aborted lpinfo after 300 seconds timeout." I click OK and it says "Failed to create the printer driver database". I click OK and it brings me to a screen that shows the printer IP address and port number but has a blank field for the driver. Conversely, when I go into the Control Center -> Hardware -> Printing -> Server -> New -> Printer, there is absolutely no delay and the printer is added immediately. One last thing to note is that the Yast2 printer wizard actually works fine on another system that is running the same version of opensuse (11.1 64-bit). There is one notable difference which may or may not be related: for some reason, Yast2 does not ask for a root password when launched on the "good" system, but rather only asks for the root password when running the individual config utilities. Conversely, on the problematic system, the root password is required the moment that Yast2 is launched, and then never requested for the individual utilities within Yast2. Not sure if that matters, nor what is causing the difference for that matter. The problematic system was just installed last night, while the "good" system was installed a few weeks ago. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. New install of opensuse 11.1 x86_64, fully updated as of 6/11/2009. 2. Open Yast2 and try to add HP Jetdirect printer via the wizard. 3. Wait for the timeout, get the error message, can't install driver. I say this happens "sometimes", but I mean that it happens always on one system and never on another system. Actual Results: Can't install the printer driver in Yast2, can do it just fine in Control Center. Expected Results: Normal printer driver install. Thank god for the Control Center. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
