Summary: Icons behind the Desktop Folder are too visible
Classification: openSUSE
Product: openSUSE 11.1
Version: Final
Platform: PC
OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1
Status: NEW
Severity: Minor
Priority: P5 - None
Component: KDE4 Workspace
AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@xxxxxxx
ReportedBy: ashaduri@xxxxxxxxx
QAContact: qa@xxxxxxx
Found By: ---
User-Agent: Opera/9.64 (X11; Linux x86_64; U; en) Presto/2.1.1
Drag an icon from the menu to the desktop (the "Personal Settings" icon, for
example).
Then, move it to the Desktop Folder (aka Folder View). The icon is no longer
clickable.
This is not the expected behaviour, because:
1. When moving an icon to the Desktop Folder one would assume that we're
putting it there. The icon is actually behind the Desktop Folder, but there is
almost no visual indication of that.
2. To make the icon clickable one has to move it outside of Desktop Folder's
area. However, it's not readily possible, because the Desktop Folder takes all
the mouse events itself, so the user has to move the Desktop Folder first, then
the icon behind it, then the move Desktop Folder back.
IMHO, this is a usability bug.
Possible ways to resolve this:
Apply some strong effect (blur?) to the icon if it's behind the folder view.
Allow the icon receive events somehow, even if it's behind the Desktop Folder.
Get rid of the standalone Desktop Folder by setting the desktop type to Folder
View by default (my favourite).
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.
