A new day and the problem is back. After using the init 3 command, I find the
/tmp/.X0-lock and /tmp/.X11-unix/X0 are there so I delete them. Then I use the
startx command and get the following error:
_XSERVTransSocketUNIXCreateListener: ...SocketCreateListener() failed
_XSERVTransMakeAl lCOTSServerListeners: server already running
Fatal server error:
Cannot establish any listening sockets - Make sure an X server isn't already
running.
When I try to view the log files with cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log, I get the same
XSERV errors as above. There's also this:
(WW) xf86CloseConsole: KDSETMODE failed: Bad file descriptor
(WW) xf86CloseConsole: VT_GETMODE failed: Bad file descriptor
