Also, everyone is trying to reduce their boot time nowadays, modprobe unzipping all loaded modules goes a bit in the opposite direction.
You do not load all of the 2410 modules, do you… a mere 99 happen to be loaded in my system ATM.
I guess compressing all *.so and all binaries (UPX) would also save a lot of disk space, but hardly anyone does this for similar reasons.
But people do use squashfs and so on :-) Your concerns are valid, though.
