You haven't read the full report: it can not be hardware, as the exact same
hardware works in 10.3 and 11.1, but fails in 11.0.
Furthermore, if I do this setup with vmware:
Host: 11.0
Guest: 11.1
Mount the device in the guest OS, it works. Furthermore, I can access it via
ftp, fish, nfs from 11.0.
It is entirely a software problem on the 11.0 OS.

The usb subsystem does not cache anything, nor does the scsi layer. Perhaps
it's bad hardware that does this, I've seen worse before.
