http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=504075 Summary: Suse cannot find correct vga settings on start and later in the shell /Splash Screen is broken too Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: Zoooooom@gmx.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=292327) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=292327) bootlog and hardware information from Yast User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; de; rv:1.9.0.10) Gecko/2009042700 SUSE/3.0.10-1.1.1 Firefox/3.0.10 Just a second after choosing to start Suse in the GRUB screen it stops with the prompt "unknown videomode". On this point you can choose between 6 different videomodes, but none of them works properly. The letters overlap or are cracked. You can also press the Space Button, then Suse continues to boot quite normally but without splash screen and in a terribly low resolution. On my screen the letters are about half an inch tall. This problem continues later in the shell, so that it is really annoying to work with the shell, not speaking of the wasted time by seeking entries in the config files. The Problem is not affected by changing the videomode settings in GRUB (vga=031b). Too ensure that it's not my graphics card (NVIDIA Geforce 260 GTX) what produces the problem I tested it together with an old debian bootable system CD (Kanotix; www.kanotix.com), and there on startup my video resolutions are correct. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Just install Suse without changing any default settings except the language and keyboard settings (I choosed german) 2.Reboot 3. Actual Results: Annoying tall letters in the shell and the startup verbose; no splash screen visible. Expected Results: Visible Splash screen and a shell/verbose that works with a higher resolution than 640x480. It should be at 1280x1024 The first Time I installed Suse 11.1 on this System I choosed Videomode 1280x1024 before installation process. On this System the same Problem appeard randomly but not often enough that I took care about it. And I never had the Problem continued by working with the shell after startup. But now I don't have enough time to try out this option again. I think because of the huge waste of time this Problem provides, it should be set to a higher level of priority. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
