http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=500413 Summary: No driver selection possible Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: SaX2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: kamikazow@web.de QAContact: sax2-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de; rv:1.9.0.9) Gecko/2009041500 SUSE/3.0.9-0.1.1 Firefox/3.0.9 There are cases when more than just one graphics driver is installed on a system. For example users with NVidia cards have the choice between "nv", "nouveau", and the proprietary drivers (ATI users are in a similar position). No driver is perfect and there are cases when a user may want to switch drivers (eg. in my case the proprietary driver is good for OpenGL uses, but bad for running my notebook on battery, because screen brightness can only be regulated with FOSS drivers). As it stands right now, users have to modify xorg.conf by hand which is not user friendly and also not in line with YaST's "be one tool for everything" motto. Please add that option for 11.2 -- maybe use YaST's hardware detection to not display all installed drivers, just the compatible ones.
