AOE I do not know, but the kernel filesystems at best have kthreads. Perhaps it
is caused by some program calling `ip link set down` on receiving the signal?
Perhaps rcnetwork stop was called?
A patch to make killall5 print every process it is about to kill, waiting for a
sec, trying to run `df` or so, and then moving on to the next process to kill,
could be of help for the OP I suppose.
