I've done some further investigation on this issue on my end. It seems that the
hrSWRunPath for processes whose /proc/<pid>/cmdline is blank report
HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrSWRunPath.1638 = No Such Instance currently exists at
this OID
(using [md1_raid1] as an example here). The problem is that this breaks
snmpwalk, as it can't walk the tree. On other machines we have running SLES
10.1 the behavior is different, they appear to return just the program name.
For example, on one of our SLES 10.1 filers running nfsd under PID 17689 the
output is
HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrSWRunPath.17689 = STRING: "nfsd"
even though cat /proc/17689/cmdline returns nothing.
The non-working version in openSUSE is net-snmp-5.4.2.1-5.1 whereas the one
that works on the SLES machine is net-snmp-5.3.0.1-25.26
I compiled net-snmp-5.4.2.1 on one of my Gentoo machines to test its behavior
there, and it works correctly just as well as the version on SLES. This seems
to point to a problem with the version built for openSUSE, or some interaction
with the system there.
