https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=489129 Summary: Pulseaudio Crash when using pavucontrol after a few seconds Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@novell.com ReportedBy: robert@re-factory.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de; rv:1.9.0.7) Gecko/2009022800 SUSE/3.0.7-1.1.6 Firefox/3.0.7 Approximately five seconds after opening pavucontrol the pulseaudio daemon crashes. I could trace down the problem to the following source. Because of the new sound level meters in pavucontrol, using it causes a lot of load on the pulseaudio daemon. This load heavily increases with the number of soundcards attached. With three attached (the internal one, one USB cam and one USB headset) the load gets that high that pulseaudio is using more than 70% of the CPU time. Thus the CPU time limiter of pulseaudio kicks in and kills the deamon after approx. 5 seconds (as it is supposed to do). Of course all apps playing sound then loose their connections. I strongly suspect this is related to bug (Bug 461296 - PulseAudio causes audio to stutter when accessing volume controls) as well. A solution could be to disable the CPU limiter of pulseaudio for the time being or - better - fix the high CPU load when using pavucontrol. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Attach two or more additional USB sound devices (to reach three in total with the internal sound device) 2. Open pavucontrol 3. Wait some time (five seconds should be sufficient but you might need to wait longer) Actual Results: pavucontrol shows a popup saying it lost connection to the pulseaudio server. It is not running anymore. Sound stops playing in all apps using PA. Expected Results: I'd prefer it not to crash while adjusting sound ;) Should I file the same bug with the pulseaudio devs as well? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
