This is normal. Do you use ext3 or reiserfs? There the journal is written every
x seconds. You might want to tune fs and mount options, e.g. mount with noatime

As there are several workarounds (latest kernel and acpi=off) and this is a
rather old machine (I really have no time to spend much time on this one) I
close this one won't fix (for 11.0, maybe the 2.6.27 kernel with 11.1 already
works, you should be able to additionally install it with:
rpm -ivh kernel-default.rpm kernel-default-base.rpm --force
Like that you still can switch to your previous installed kernels easily.
