https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=487572 Summary: OpenSUSE 11.1 killed vista boot Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Windows Vista Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Bootloader AssignedTo: jsrain@novell.com ReportedBy: hg2051@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.0.7) Gecko/2009021910 Firefox/3.0.7 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) Hi! I wanted to install OpenSUSE 11.1 on a Vista PC.My intention was to have a dual boot option. I started the installation of OpenSUSE 11.1 from the HD (where I had downloaded the DVD version of Opensuse 11.1). This was probably an error, since it didn't offer me the choice where to install it:after some seconds it said it was installed and proposed me to restart the PC. On restart, no option to reboot either on Vista or on OpenSUSE, but only the request to intruduce CD1 in the CD drive and continue the installation!(I have a CD containing Opensuse 11.1, but id this the CD1 I'm asked for?) The attempt to fix this by using the original Vista recovery disk failed, while telling me it had been successful. I used the procedure indicated at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392. But it didn't work, even if after running each of the suggested commands (\fixmbr,\fixboot) I was reassured that it had worked. Moreover, when I reproduced all the steps to completely rebuild the BCD, I got the message that no boot file was found (and no Vista installed on my PC). I need to regain access to Vista.I don't know if I have to proceed with the installation of Opensuse or not. Could anyone tell me if continuing with the CD I have will correctly install Opensuse without destroying my Vista installation and if from within Opensuse I will be able to repair the Vista boot and then have a dual boot option? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Start PC 2.Either boot from Vista recovery disk 3.Or let the PC try to continue the installation of Opensuse Actual Results: 1.Using the command line to repair Vista's BCD or MBR,Vista is no loger found. 2.Letting Opensuse installation to continue asks for CD1,which I don't know if it is the same with the downloaded Opensuse 11.1 CD Expected Results: Propose a dual boot or at least not damage Vista boot without warning. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
