pdf properties showing incorrect title

The attached image shows what I am refering to as metadata in the pdf file when
opened using acroread. I get the same results using kpdf and okular. The key
point is that the metadata is incorrect. Do you see the same properties, or
does it show up differently for you?

If there is no metadata in the ps file, that's fine. Creation of the pdf is
pulling the metadata for the pdf from somewhere, and that somewhere appears to
be the eps file from gnuplot. It would be less troublesome if the title and
author fields were simply left blank.

The title in the title bar is not a reliable indicator of the pdf file
metadata. Okular displays the metadata title, while acroread and kpdf do not.
