I also tried to compile the latest version of the driver downloadable from
Ralink myself (2008_0918_RT2860_Linux_STA_v1.8.0.0.tar.bz2), this did not help.
Then I tried to compile an older version from Ralink
(2008_0708_RT2860_Linux_STA_v1.7.0.0.tar.bz2), this did not help either.
Only with the 1.7.1.1_EeePC version
(2008_0925_RT2860_LinuxSTA_v1.7.1.1_EeePC.tar.bz2
from the attached rpm) my wireless network worked.
The attached rpm also contains a few patches but they are all trivial.
In my opinion they have nothing to do with making the driver work.
The rpm contains the patches:
EEEPC-reduce-debug-output.patch
irrelevant.
EEEPC-rt_main_dev-2.6.26.diff
EEEPC-sta_ioctl-2.6.27.diff
only needed to make it compile with newer kernels, I had to make the same
patches when I tried to compile 1.7.0.0 myself.
rt2860sta_EEEPC-convert-devicename-to-wlanX.diff
As the name of this patch says, it only changes the device name
from "ra0" to "wlan0". Not important. In fact I removed this patch from the rpm
and my wireless network worked nevertheless.
Therefore, the difference which makes it work must be in the tarball.
Where does this tarball come from? From Ralink? I don't know.
