I have been wondering indeed why the TeX people use their own system. It would
indeed be a good idea to provide rpms for TeX packages. But that would be a
*lot* of new rpms.
I don’t really see why they can’t mix. tlmgr installs files into some
directory, that is all, why would the rpm system be influenced by this? You
could maybe restrict what the tlmgr could do, but at least simply installing
additional LaTeX packages should be possible, no?
I notified the TL2008 list of this bug, I hope somebody will react.
