Then could you run alsa-info with the current state and upload the file?
The echo is likely because you raise/unmute "Mic Playback Volume" (or Front
Mic...) This is the analog loopback and has nothing to do with the recording.
The recording level is determined only by "Capture Volume", "Capture Switch",
"*Mic Boost" (and "Digital Capture Volume" depending on the PCM device).
Again, make sure that you choose the right input source. It's possible that
"Line" corresponds to the mic, too.
