yes seems to be that 11.0 was still using vesa/fb or something.

so a bug or incompatibility in the x11 base backages of 11.1 rtm? the
Xorg.0.log of 11.1 talks about unknown device, but later rs780 is being shown
and there is a list where rs780 driver is also being listed for radeon hd 3300
card, which is on this board.

general question: in the past and present most of the times the opensuse setup
from dvd/cd media works on allmost all kinds of graphics cards. what mode is
being used during setup time, and how i can force or change later inside the
running system to this mode/driver? sax2 doesnt really work on this 11.1
system. it flickers a bit and then dies. if i remember correctly, there are
plently of errors in the sax2 logs too in 11.1
