https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=469859 Summary: smartd wakes up hard discs Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: psikodad@gmx.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008121300 SUSE/3.0.5-0.1 Firefox/3.0.5 The smartd daemon wakes up all hard discs every half an hour even when the hard disc is in standby mode. smartd should check first if the drive is in standby mode e.g. with hdparm -C /dev/sdb If the output is "drive state is: standby" then skip to next drive. As soon as the drive is used by the user again (and status switch to "active/idle"), the smartd daemon can collect S.M.A.R.T values as usual. (within 30 minutes). the every-30-minutes-wake-up-call isn't good for hard discs which aren't used over night. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. put hard disc with hdparm -y /dev/sdb into standby mode (or hdparm -S 150 /dev/sdb, but this takes 12 minutes longer :-) 2. wait max. of 30 minutes 3. Actual Results: hard disc is active again due to smartd Expected Results: smartd shouldn't wake up drives in standby-mode -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
