a similar bug has been fixed in archlinux
(http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/10968)
so why not in opensuse?

Because we didn't know about that yet.
xulrunner/firefox on 11.0 and 11.1 are using the system sqlite installation
which obviously doesn't have that feature enabled.

There are two possible solutions:
- enable fts3 in the global sqlite3 package
- stop using system sqlite but ship xulrunner/firefox with its own library
