OK, but you still get the hang-up problem somehow periodically?
Does it happen on any other apps?

Just need to sort out what kind of problem it is -- the ALSA driver level, the
sound subsystem conflict, or the application layer. For example, the blocking
can be done by any app if it access the sound device exclusively without dmix.
