AFAICS the 'x' is defined. passwd(5) points to pwconv(8), saying: " It relies
on the special password 'x' in the password field of the account. This value
indicates that the password for the user is already in /etc/shadow and should
not be modified."
I read it as "if there is no 'x' in passwd, then passwd contains the password
hash." Looking at the fact that SunOS/Solaris still doesn't support a
shadow.biname NIS map I don't see another reasonable interpretation.
Please reopen this bug.
Many thanx
Harri
